On 26 May 2011, three China marine surveillance ships (CMS) attacked a Vietnamese oil exploring crew who was working totally within Vietnamese maritime border (116 Nautical miles from Vietnamese land. Maritime border is 200 Nautical miles from mainland).
Chinese crew: CMS 84, CMS 17, CMS 72 are Chinese naval ships
Vietnamese crew: +Binh Minh 02 (SunRise 02) - main ship carrying cable.
Van Hoa 739 (Kaleidoscope 739), Dong Nam 02 (South East 02) and Binh An 01 (Peace 01) are unarmed protector ships
The CMSs attacked when the Vietnamese crew was setting up cables for exploration purpose. After the attack, 6km of the cable was cut and according to petroleum engineering experts, this type of cable is extra strengthen, therefore when a normal ship hit this cable, there can only be two possible outcome, either ship's rudder get jammed with the cable or it will drag the cable with it. So it was strongly believed that the Chinese had planned for the attack and equiped these ships with special cutting device.
5:18 am, the attack started. CMSs try to approach Binh Minh 02 and go around to cut the cable (since the cable come out from Binh Minh 02, it float near the sea level around the ship). Binh Minh 02 had warned CMSs several times about the strong cable around it can damage any ship going near but there was no answer, instead, CMSs keep on coming until when they got near enough, they suddenly announced that Vietnamese ships were illigally sailing in Chinese territory (?!??)
CMS84 and CMS17, CMS72 coming in zig zag formation, planing to get through the Vietnamese protetor ships. Seeing what's about to happend, VNese protectors decided to do whatever it take to prevent them coming anywhere near Binh Minh 02.
Dong Nam 02 was assigned to stop CMS 84 while Van Hoa 739 and Binh An 01 stop CMS 17 and CMS 72.
Dong Nam 02 saw that CMS 84 came to dangerously close range with Binh Minh 02 and decided to ram it to push it away from danger zone. CMS 84 ran away after being rammed. Dong Nam 02 successfully push CMS 84 away, then came back to reinforce the others.
Meanwhile, Van Hoa 793 came in contact with CMS 72 to stop it from coming any closer and Binh An 01 ran parallel to CMS 17, ready to take any action if CMS 17 would do any harassment.
However, after running away, CMS 84 came back to attack, so Dong Nam 02 stayed to take care of CMS 72 and Van Hoa 739 go for CMS 84. CMS 84 saw Van Hoa coming and boosted its speed toward Binh Minh 02 (the cable ship). Van Hoa coundn't catch it in time so CMS 84 was able to cut the cable at 1km from Binh Minh.
Couldn't save the cable, the Vietnamese protectors still run around and repel the Chinese naval ships from more harassment to Binh Minh 02 and the 6km cable that was cut separated.
8.00 am, Van Hoa managed to pick one end of the cutted cable while Binh An got the other end, Dong Nam 02 cover the middle part and run parallel to Binh Minh 02. Chinese ships had stopped harashing but still threatening by running in circle. They only left when Vietnamese ships came back to quite close to Vietnamese mainland.

In Part 2. Van Hoa 739 prevent CMS 72 from coming close
In Part 3. CMS 84 cut the cable.
After making it safety back, the Vietnamese sailors was rewarded for when risking their live to protect national property agaisnt Chinese navy.
